Holiday with the Stars
24/03/2010 - Gran Canaria is famous for its temperate winters and many of our guests like to escape harsh weather in their native countries to enjoy the winter sun.
Throughout the year, Anfi has its fair share of famous guests from all over the world and this winter we played host to a number of celebrities escaping the cold Northern climate.
Well-known Norwegian television and film actor, Sven Nordin, who has been described as Gerard Depardieu on a good day, enjoyed a relaxing couple of weeks soaking up the sun here at Anfi along with his lovely wife Turid. They particularly appreciated the lovely weather with temperatures of 25º, when they heard it was a teeth-chattering -25º back home!
Additionaly, it seems that Anfi Tauro has become a favoured training destination for Norwegian football teams.
First Aalesund football team visited for a challenging two week training camp. Despite the exhausting workouts, the players were thrilled with their luxurious Penthouse accommodation and were able to manage to fit in plenty of sunbathing and well-deserved soaks in the hot-tubs.
Next came rivals - Brann football club. They too, had to endure a gruelling training schedule, but were delighted that they could find time to enjoy the facilities of Anfi Emerald and play a few rounds of golf. They guaranteed that they would return next year.
The reputation of Anfi Tauro Golf as a top world-class golf destination is growing all the time with more and more international visitors enjoying its challenge and beauty.
On a recent visit to promote Powerplay Golf, leading British amateur golfer and successful golf course designer, Peter McEvoy was very impressed by Anfi Tauro Golf. He said, “I’ve seen projects like this all over the world – nice hotels, fantastic courses and good service, but I’ve never experienced anything like this. It’s a top class golf course: everything man has added to it makes it world class, but it’s what nature has provided that makes the difference. It’s the natural experience that I find thrilling”.
Another guest agreed…
Mini Jacobsen was one of Norway’s most celebrated footballers until his retirement ten years ago. He is now a successful TV sports reporter and keen golfer. He compared our championship course to some of the best courses in the world. He said, “I regularly go on golf trips with four or five friends – we’ve been to Dubai and Florida a few times but we are more impressed with Anfi Tauro. When you look at the greens and fairways, the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean – it can give you the challenge as a golfer and it’s good for your heart and mind too”.
Another convert to Anfi Tauro Golf is Germany’s greatest football legend, Franz Beckenbauer. He was awe struck with the challenge and beauty of the greens and fairways and, of course, the wonderful weather. He assured us he would be back soon to spend a whole week to indulge his passion for golf.
